About Loan Ledger
We publish plain-English guides to borrowing money. We are not a lender, not a broker, and we take no cut of any loan you sign.
Why this site exists
Almost every page you land on when you search for a loan is trying to sell you one. Comparison tables are ranked by commission. "Best rates" lists are advertising. The result is that the single most consequential number — what the loan will cost you in total, over its whole life — is the one number nobody puts in front of you.
Loan Ledger exists to put that number first. Every guide here works through the arithmetic with stated assumptions, shows the total interest alongside the monthly payment, and tells you plainly when borrowing is the wrong move.
How we make money
This site is funded by display advertising, served through Google AdSense. Advertisers pay to show ads to our readers. They do not pay for coverage, they cannot see our articles before they publish, and they have no influence over what we write.
We earn nothing if you take out a loan. We run no affiliate links to lenders, accept no referral fees, and operate no lead-generation forms. If a guide tells you a personal loan is a bad idea for your situation, that recommendation costs us nothing to make — which is precisely the point. Our full advertising disclosure spells this out.
Who writes it
Dana Whitfield
Senior Editor, Lending
Dana has covered consumer lending for over a decade, focusing on how mortgage and personal-loan pricing actually reaches the borrower. She writes the rate math on Loan Ledger.
Marcus Reyes
Staff Writer, Auto & Student Debt
Marcus writes about auto financing and student debt, with a focus on the fine print — dealer markup, repayment-plan trade-offs, and the protections borrowers give up without noticing.
Elena Marsh
Staff Writer, Insurance
Elena covers personal and commercial insurance pricing — what an underwriter is actually looking at, which carriers compete for which risk, and how the same driver or business gets quoted three different numbers on the same day.
Priya Natarajan, CFP®
Reviewer, Certified Financial Planner
Priya is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. She reviews Loan Ledger articles for accuracy and checks that every worked example holds up against real lender terms.
How we check our work
Every guide is written by a named author and reviewed by a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional before it goes live. Worked examples are recomputed against the standard amortization formula, and each article carries the date it was last verified. Our editorial policy describes the process in full, including how we handle corrections.
